Jacksonville Beach contemporary landscape

Our beloved clients “inherited” a landscape through their home building process that didn’t fit their vision. This family also happens to be some of the most talented designers (Schulte Design Associates) in Jacksonville. They wanted to upgrade their landscape while staying within the regulatory boundaries of their neighborhood HOA and they wanted a cool modern courtyard to compliment their beautiful Mediterranean inspired home.

Our style for their front yard was heavily influenced by the landscaping rules set forth by the Paradise Key community. This included specific approved plant lists for various different parts of the property. Luckily the community has great taste and we were able to use many of our favorites like dwarf camellias, Simpson stopper and even an adorable little gem magnolia! We were able to flex our creative vision in the courtyard which is completely outside of the community domain. Here we chose a beautiful pair of hand picked crimson queen Japanese maples and a arborquina olive tree to compliment their existing crape myrtle. These beautiful trees were accented with groupings of small white boulders and dwarf mondo to give a feeling of antiquity.

Overall this design is extremely low maintenance. The plant pallet is slow growing, mostly evergreen and all around Florida friendly. As always we laid a generous layer of mulch to suppress weeds and tons of carbon to give the soil an organic boost.

We love using olives whenever we can and the ancient Japanese maples from our super secret grower really made this landscape incredibly special!
