Bluebird Growers Spring 23’ workshops

Every year Bluebird Growers teaches a plethora of slow-living inspired workshops at community venues and private residences! We teach subjects on cheesemaking, coffee roasting, gardening, mushroom foraging, caramel making and even mead making around the holidays! Nick, our lead horticulturist and renaissance man of sorts, is our sensei guiding his students through an incredibly fun and interactive experience! We teach most of our community workshops at the ever so lovely The Heirloom Yard (a micro flower farm in Fernandina Beach, Florida) but we have also taught at Spruce Jax, Jenna Alexander Studio, Congaree and Penn, & Town Beer co.

This year we will be teaching 7 different workshops at The Heirloom Yard! Check out the schedule and details for each workshop below. You can book your spot directly on The Heirloom Yard’s website once she releases the workshops which should be veeeeery soon. :)

“Born and raised in the dairy-loving “cheese state,” Wisconsin, Nick comes with the heritage, enthusiasm and passion for all things cheese! Learn how to make cheese (from scratch!) with Nick of Bluebird Growers. Enjoy a beautiful evening, with foodies alike, making two different types of cheeses; a lebnah cheese adorned with gorgeous, colorful, edible flowers and a citrus curd cheese flavored with your favorite herbs. While we learn about this magical process we will nibble on a cheese plate featuring Bluebird’s homemade cheese and sip on perfectly paired wines. Enjoy this incredibly fun and interactive experience alone or with friends!”

Gardening, vermiculture & beers — Friday, June 16: 6-8pm

“Come join us for a BRAND NEW 2023 workshop offering! Nick (an experienced horticulturalist of Bluebird Growers) will go over the basics of edible gardening: soil amendment, plant selection, and cultivation of your very own home garden. This fun and informative workshop will have you leaving with a locally-crafted tiny raised garden bed from Jax Woodcrafters fully planted with locally sourced plants! And that’s not all. While you’re here learn all about the magical creatures (worms!) that turn food scraps (and other green waste) into nutrient rich compost. Nick will teach you all about vermicutlure AKA: worm composting! Vermicomposting, or worm composting, turns kitchen scraps and other green waste into a rich, dark soil by using earth worms called Red Wigglers. The after product “vermicompost” is nutrient rich source that improves the organic matter of soil. The main component is worm castings which makes for a super-de-duper black gold kinda’ compost. Not only is vermicompost rich in nutrients but it is also loaded with the microorganisms that create and maintain healthy soil which means… healthier plants! Lastly, while you’re hands are dirty gardening and learning all about worm composting, enjoy some local beers!”
